Post Doc Research Assistant

Job Summary The Evolution of Cells, Symbionts, and Organelles (ECSO) Lab in the Department of Biological Sciences at Purdue University (West Lafayette, IN) is seeking a motivated and creative bioinformatician to join our team as a Postdoctoral Researcher. The research project(s) will revolve around the topics of contemporary (photo)symbioses and/or the origin of mitochondria and eukaryotes. Additional responsibilities may include supervising a PhD or MSc student and developing in-house bioinformatic pipelines/workflows. This position is for up to 24 months pending satisfactory performance and funding. Employment for this position is expected to begin between January 2023 and May 2023 but there is some flexibility. Additional responsibilities may include supervising a PhD or MSc student and developing in-house bioinformatic pipelines/workflows. The ideal candidate should have:

  • a PhD in microbiology, molecular biology, genomics, bioinformatics, computational biology, or related fields,

  • previous experience in bioinformatic analyses (e.g., comparative genomics, phylogenetics, metagenomics),

  • proficiency in Python and/or R,

  • excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, and

  • a keen interest in symbiosis and evolutionary/comparative cell biology.

Research Associate

Research Associate The Evolution of Cells, Symbionts, and Organelles (ECSO) Lab in the Department of Biological Sciences at Purdue University (West Lafayette, IN) is seeking a microbiologist to join our team as a Research Associate. This position will support research in the lab with proof-of-concept experiments and includes some lab managing and technician duties. This position is for up to 36 months pending satisfactory performance and funding. Employment for this position is expected to begin between January 2023 and March 2023 but there is some flexibility. The ideal candidate should have:

  • a MSc or PhD in microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or related fields,

  • previous experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, and microbial culturing,

  • excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills,

  • a keen interest in symbiosis, evolutionary cell biology, and microbial physiology.
