Post Doc Research Assistant

Job Summary: The Evolution of Cells, Symbionts, and Organelles (ECSO) Lab in the Department of Biological Sciences at Purdue University (West Lafayette, IN) is seeking a motivated and creative bioinformatician to join our team as a Postdoctoral Researcher. The research project(s) will revolve around the topics of contemporary (photo)symbioses and/or the origin of mitochondria and eukaryotes. Additional responsibilities may include supervising a PhD or MSc student and developing in-house bioinformatic pipelines/workflows. This position is for up to 24 months pending satisfactory performance and funding. Employment for this position is expected to begin between January 2023 and May 2023 but there is some flexibility. Education

The ideal candidate should have:

  • a PhD in microbiology, molecular biology, genomics, bioinformatics, computational biology, or related fields,
  • previous experience in bioinformatic analyses (e.g., comparative genomics, phylogenetics, metagenomics), 
  • proficiency in Python and/or R, 
  • excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, and
  • a keen interest in symbiosis and evolutionary/comparative cell biology.

Experience

Python and/or R programming.

Experience with bioinformatic analyses (phylogenetics, comparative genomics, metagenomics, etc.).

A keen interest in symbiosis and evolutionary and comparative cell biology.
