Seminar: Michael I. Bukrinsky
Institute of Parasitology invites you to the seminar: “Insights into pathogenesis of diseases accompanying suppressed HIV-1 infection”
The seminar will be held at 13:00 on Wednesday 4 October 2023 in seminar room PARU II (2nd floor PARU Animal Facility), Institute of Parasitology
Abstract:
Anti-retroviral therapy (ART) changed the course of HIV infection from an acute lethal disease to a manageable chronic life-long infection. ART suppresses HIV replication, restores immune system, and eliminates AIDS co-morbidities. Nevertheless, HIV-infected individuals remain at high risk of developing non-AIDS co-morbidities, such as cardio-vascular and neurocognitive diseases. In this lecture, I will provide current views on pathogenesis of these diseases and will present a novel hypothesis originating from the studies in my lab. The evidence for the key role of Nef-carrying extracellular vesicles in HIV-associated inflammation and pathogenesis of HIV-related co-morbidities will be presented.
The laboratory workshop will be held at 10:00 on Thursday 5 October 2023 in seminar room PARU I, Institute of Parasitology
