My research focus is uncovering the species diversity, phylogenetic relationships, and evolutionary trajectories of parasites, mainly myxozoans. I apply the phylogenetic and molecular biology methods to address questions in evolutionary and functional biology using parasites as model organisms. My recent projects also focus on the characterization of parasite proteases and protease inhibitors as molecules crucial for host-parasite interactions and the assessment of their relevance as therapeutic targets. Besides myxozoans, I am involved in studies of other animal and human parasites/pathogens, such as apicomplexans, ticks, and flukes.
